Hurrah its Pancake Day

by

Confused? Don't be! Pancake Day is also known as Shrove Tuesday. Shrove Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. The date changes yearly as the Easter holiday is a floating holiday.

In most traditions the day is known for the eating of pancakes, (ie the term pancake day). Pancakes were chosen because they are made of the main foods available at the time sugar, fat, flour, and eggs.

Pancake Recipe:

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons white sugar
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg, beaten
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Directions:

In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Make a well in the center, and pour in milk, egg and oil. Mix until smooth.

Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot.

Or you can do what I do and head out to a IHOP and have hot yummy pancakes made for you!
